A former lode Au mine located in sec. 6, T24S, R43E, MDM, 6.8 km (4.2 miles) ENE of Argus Peak (coordinates of record), along Rattlesnake Canyon, S of Crow and Homewood Canyons, and about 8 miles N of Trona (6.5 miles N of Pioneer Point), on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Great Falls Basin Wilderness Study Area). Property consisted of 6 claims. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with the vein averaging 6 feet in thickness, hosted in granite. The ore body strikes E-W and dips 80N at a thickness of 4.27 meters. Vein filling is quartz, altered country rock and encrustations of calcite. Gold is free and fine-grained. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings. Development consisted of a shaft sunk on a 70 degree inclination for 168 feet. At the 60 foot level, the shaftb connects with a tunnel which was driven W about 300 feet. The shaft is 200 feet from the portal of this tunnel. On the 110 foot level a drift about 65 feet E connects with an old stope drift W about 300 feet, the last 200 feet of which is reported to be an ore shoot. The average width is about 5 feet. At the 160 foot level, a cross cut was driven 30 feet S to the vein. A drift W 400 feet at 60 feet from the shaft struck an ore shoot 160 feet long and 3 to 14 feet wide. The last 20 feet of this drift is reported to be in good ore. At 100 feet from the crossscut there is a raise to the 110 foot level. There is also a drift E 335 feet, of which the eastern 200 feet is reported to be ore for a width of 7 feet.
Production data are found in: Norman and Stewart (1951).
Production was primarily from the 168 foot level. No other production records were found.
Analytical data results: Ore assayed $10/ton in Au (period values).
