A former lode Au mine located in the SE¼ sec. 30, T4S, R18E, MDM, in Whitlock Gulch, about 3½ miles N of Mount Bullion, adjoining the Nutmeg Mine on the S, on private (patented) land. The property consists of 1 patented claim. Operated by the Permit Mining Co. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. The ore body is tabular in form, strikes N20W, dips 80 NE at 1.22 meters thick. The vein is 3 to 4 feet thick. Apparently there are several cutter veins and at least one minor parallel vein. Wall rocks are sheared, somewhat platy pyroxene andesite greenstones. The Geary vein is the same one that crosses the Nutmeg Mine. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 2 shafts 160 and 70 feet deep, respectively, about 300 feet apart, plus drifts. First worked by a series of open cuts.
Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).
Little record of early production during exploration. A small tonnage of ore was shipped in 1938, which yielded 0.38 ounces of Au and about 0.1 ounces of Ag per ton.
