A former lode Au mine located in the NW¼ sec. 4, T3S, R16E, MDM, 1.7 km (5,600 feet) WSW of Coulterville, on private (patented) land. Property is patented. Operated by Walter J. Lautenschlager. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Lies to the E of the Potosi claim.
NOTE: MRDS database file #10030856 states that this claim was one of the claims of the Mahoney group. Probably never operated as a separate mine. This is believed to be a mistake for the Malvina group (Potosi group), as identified in other MRDS files. MRDS file #10211960 provides the name "Mahoney" as one of the alternate names for the Malvina.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit with a vein 3 to 20 feet thick, hosted in slate. The ore body strikes NW and dips 50NE at a thickness of 6.1 meters. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified underground openings.
