A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 26, T20N, R10E, MDM, 1.4 km (0.8 mile) NNE of Downieville (adjoins the Downieville townsite on the N), along the W canyon wall of the Downie River, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Produced many years ago, then idle until 1916.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with pockets hosted in serpentinite and Late Permian slate. The ore body is pinch-and-swell in form. The vein lies on a contact between serpentine and black slate with an average thickness of 10 inches (25 cm). Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 21.34 meters and comprised of adits with 150 feet of backs and a winze inclined at 40 degrees.
