A gemstone (agate-opal) occurrence located in the SW¼ (possibly) sec. 20, T4N, R11E, MDM, 3.3 km (2.1 miles) SW of Toyon, on the N shore of the New Hogan Lake (reservoir / Calaveras River) (On Hooten Ranch about 1 mile from state highway 12). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

Mineralization is an agate/opal deposit which covers the hill. The veins found range in width from very narrow to 2 inches (5 cm) thick near the surface and thicker underground. Some of the agate appears blue but appears clear when cut thin. Moss agate with white sprays has reportedly been found. Opal is common but probably of good grade as the veins get deeper. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).

Operated as a collect-for-fee site ($1.00 per person at the time).
