Amethyst occurrence in effusive rocks located in the territory of the Sary Shagan military range (Jambyl and Karaganda Regions), to the north of Kashkanteniz Bay, near the closed city of Priozersk (Karaganda Region; coordinates 46°1'33"N, 73°41'29"E).

The amethyst occurrence was discovered by chance during foundation works for military facilities.

Note: this occurrence is sometimes indicated in mineral collections as "Priozersk" (the nearest town in Karaganda Region) or "Kashkanteniz" (the nearest bay of Lake Balkhash).
