A camping vacation, at the age of eight, with my parents to the New England area of NSW, Australia, where I found a water-worn topaz crystal in Oban Creek, started my life-long interest in minerals and eventually led to my becoming a geologist. My job has allowed me to dig minerals in most states of Australia, South Africa, Namibia, the two Congos, Mali, Burkina Faso, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Venezula and Colombia. It has also allowed me to trade and exchange minerals with miners, and collectors in the many countries where I have worked as well as making many friends along the way.
