In this publication "Adalberto de Andrade et al. – Minas de Ferro de Montemor-o-Novo (Relatório do Estudo Feito nas Minas: Serra dos Monges no. 1, Herdade da Defesa e da Sala, Herdade da Nogueirinha, Herdade da Serrinha, Ferrarias (Herdade da Gamela), Herdade do Castelo, Vale da Arca, Carvalhal, Casas Novas e Serra dos Monges no. 2) – Ministério da Economia, Direcção Geral de Minas e Serviços Geológicos, Serviço de Fomento Mineiro – Lisboa, 1949” the authors mention, on page 32: "In the area covered by this concession, we found no mining activity whatsoever, leading us to conclude that it has never been subjected to mining operations."
