This area was a centre for a lot of relatively small scale tin and gold mining in the 1900βs but most workings are long abandoned. It is most notable for smoky quartz crystals, up to maybe a metre in size, but usually <15cm. The is a public fossicking area about 1km west of the town where people can collect quartz without a prospecting licence.
