This is not the same location as the town of Sandstone and its surrounding gold mines, between Mount Magnet and Leinster. This mine is a group of historic shafts, 500 metres south-east of the Golden Vale open pit in the Mount Ida Goldfield.

A crushing was found in 1907 of 20 tonnes for 17 ounces. Further in 1910, a source states the mine was developed by Hawkins and Waters (surnames). They were following a shoot down 100 feet at 30 dwt. The area was described as rich in patches.

Access is via the Golden Vale mine, however there are several prospector camps in the area, including one bordering the track to the Sandstone mine. These leases could be active at any stage.
