The mine was floated in 1896 with 85 000 pounds capital from Glasgow investors. George Park was put in charge and persisted for years in developing the deposit. A 10 head battery was erected, only to find afterwards the ore was too low a value to pay. The mill was eventually sold to the Hainault Company at Boulder, and the lease abandoned.
In 1903, a retired teamster called Taylor was operating the mine, having spent 500 pounds for a boiler which did not work, and a one stamp battery. At the time it was the only mine to be operational at Comet Vale.
Various lone miners worked the deposit on and off over the decades, some making a small fortune. They included Fred Myers, Jack McAlpine, Charlie Nio, Syd Seaman and Bille Dean.
The group of reefs at Lady Margaret are in a narrow belt of hornblendic schist, which strikes north-west in the Lady Margaret area, then north at its northern end. Thin aplite dykes are common in the Lady Margaret area.
The location is about one kilometre north-west of the Sand Queen/Gladsome mine on the highway. The Lady Margaret is an area of disturbed ground covering a few acres inamongst the scrub.
