One of the earliest leases pegged on the field after the original discovery at the Paris Gift lease. The original prospector of Bonanza was called Spence (surname).
A shaft had been sunk to 40 feet, on a well defined north-west to south-east trending quartz reef, impregnated with iron carrying coarse gold.
A second shaft was down to 55 feet, and cross-cut north north-east for 24 feet. A third shaft was down to 51 feet, south south-west of the former shaft. The fourth shaft was down to 25 feet and cross-cut to 24 feet.
H.M. Deaken then owned the lease but in July 1896 sold it to London speculators. No more was found.
