Wyatt states there are old workings at the site, but no historical information was found.

They occur on the north side of a small hillock of breccia, with four bands of east trending quartz-hematite bodies. Immediately north is a small sandstone outcrop, and a quartz blow, while south of the hillock is a few sandstone outcrops dipping east by 10 degrees.

The mine is on a south south-west pitching small anticline, with minor faults down throwing to the south. The main shaft is in breccia, with quartz-hematite to the south, and banded slate to the west.

While probably originally a gold mine, Wyatt states the mine site contains a copper anomaly, and elevated bismuth values.

To reach the mine, head east from the repeater station just east of Tennant Creek, along a rough track winding between hills passing several other small historic mines along the way. About 500 metres past the Hopeful Star mine turnoff, a faint track heads south south-east for one kilometre to the small hillock. Whether the remains of the shaft exist requires a visit, as all that can be seen is a small bulldozed area.
