Volcanic range is located along the northern of the axis of the Afar (or Danakil) Depression, which is characterized by numerous NNW-trending normal faults and tensional features associated with active volcanism (Barberi & Varet 1970).
The range occupies an area of about 95 x 40 km and is built principally of the products of eruptions from fissures.
There are active lava lakes.
Approx coords range: 13º19' - 14º02'N; 40º20' - 40º55'E.
