Birži-Miķelāni Dolomite Quarry is a Late Devonian (Daugava suite) dolomite deposit located in the Salas Parish near Birži populated place. It's a quarry for the extraction of crushed dolomite. The quarry is considered as sandy and dolomite, exposing layers of sand of the Upper Quaternary period and a shallow part of the Devonian dolomites of the Daugava suite.

In the layers of ordinary dolomites, karst is widely distributed, some blocks have a honeycomb structure. Some dolomite layers has a specific dark-grey colour (due to dark clay and organic (?) inclusions). These dolomites contain very localized sulfide mineralization in the form of pyrite.

In these dark clayey dolomites, in 2023 for the first time were found atypical for the country territory sulfides - galena and sphalerite (!!!).
