The Ferro Mine (Sec 33 T47N R29W) was an underground mine opened in 1913. The ore was largely ferruginous chert and carbonate iron formation of the Trommald Formation. The mine was worked on and off thorugh 1944. The iron ore was particularly high in manganese. Manganese mineralization also was prominent along joints and fractures in the adjacent rocks. Acmite-rich units were interlayered with the iron-formation.
