A placer gemstone occurrence located in sec. 23, T7N, R12E, MDM, 0.8 km (0.5 mile) ENE of Volcano, on the N side of Sutter Creek. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.

Mineralization is a diamondiferous placer deposit. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Between 60 & 70 small diamonds have been found in Jackass Gulch near Volcano. The larger stones ranged from 1 to 1.57 carets in weight. Four small octahedral diamond crystals found near Volcano were placed on display in the American Museum of Natural History, New York City, New York. Also, small amounts of blue chalcedony and opalized wood have been found near Volcano.
