A former lode Au mine located in the SW¼ (estimated) sec. 35, T6N, R13E, MDM, 1.9 km (1.2 miles) SSW of Railroad Flat, along the North Fork Calaveras River, W of Redhawk Lake (5 miles S of West Point; just E of the Railroad Flat-Mountain Ranch Road). Extensively worked during the period 1869 to 1875. Idle until 1933. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in Late Permian slate and schist. The ore body is pinch & swell in general form, strikes NNE and dips 60E at a thickness of 0.91 meter. The quartz vein is 8 inches (20 cm) to 3 feet (0.91 meter) thick, white to dark gray, in slate and quartz-mica schist. Abundant sulfides are present. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include underground opening comprised of a 400 foot inclined shaft with levels at 100, 200, 300 & 360 feet. Short drifts at each level. Most development work done during the period 1871-1875.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).

1930's high-grade ore was from the 360 foot level.
