Name:
Named for the Qaidam (or Chaidamu) Basin, China. It is a hyperarid basin about 560 km by 160 km that includes saline lakes, marshes, playas and desert. It is located in the Northern Tibetan Plateau, the basin has an elevation of around 3,000 m between two branches of the Kunlun Mountains. Resources include salt, oil, iron ore, and coal. The chaidamuite type locality is on the eastern edge of the basin.
The lower hydrate counterpart of zincobotryogen.
