Identity HelpWavellite - Texas or Arkansas? Opinions please...
11th Aug 2012 06:31 UTCStephanie Martin
I obtained a wavellite specimen that is labelled Zimpleman Pass prospects, Quitman Mts, Hudspeth Co., Texas, USA.
There are no pictures in the data base to compare, so I can't determine if there has been a label mix up.
The material looks very much like Arkansas material, however I would like to know if anyone has collected wavellite there and could determine if this looks like it could come from Texas. Since this is on the far side of Texas from Arkansas, I don't know if the material there could be similar to that found in Arkansas.
Any info appreciated.
thanks,
stephanie :-)

I really wanted it to be a Texan wavellite :-(
As there are no pictures at all for Zimpleman Pass, I couldn't even speculate about the matrix, but my guess was that the appearance of the specimen was far too much of a coincidence to look so much like Arkansas material. Oh well, guess I have another Arkansas wavellite.
Thanks Hal for confirming.
I guess I'll go fix the label. Again. *sigh*
regards,
stephanie :-)

As Hal mentioned, I have never seen anything like that from Texas.
