Hi there, I am a complete amateur, and new to this site. I found the object pictured below some years ago in either Utah or Arizona. This rock weighs 9.2 ounces, and measures 2.5" or so in diameter. I can chip at it with a knife with considerable effort. First image is of it sitting in direct sunlight. Second image is of it sitting inside with no interior lights on.

Could it be a turquoise nugget?

Thanks,

Rick

Looks like a thunder egg. If you can find someone with a rock or tile saw, try slicing it down the middle! --Ken

Likely an agate or a chalcedony nodule. As Ken suggested, have it cut open, you might have a surprise (note I said "might"). Definitely not turquoise.
