Identity Helpuranopilite?
12th Jun 2017 16:16 UTCMonika Kertowska
I have recently purchased an old mineral collection and, among others, I have found a mineral specimen that I am unable to identify. The mineral forms bright yellow roses of hexagonal crystals. The crystals grow on skalenoedric calcite crystals, and these grow on massive calcite. It glows yellow under UV. Some parts of the calcite are also fluorescent, same hue but lower intensity. The specimen is labelled "uranospinite, Ellweiler", however, it looks nothing like uranospinite. It actually looks a little like uranopilite, so it could be just a simple spelling mistake, confusion with the two similar names, or misidentification. In the collection, there is also Heinrichite from this locality, so it seems like the locality is probably correct. The photo below is about 5mm in width. I`ll appreciate any suggestions.
