Identity HelpUnknown Semi Translucent Crystals in Matrix, Guatemala

New material found in Guatemala, in the state of Huehuetenango, in the municipality of Totonicipan.

Particularly in the city of San Bartolo at the Hot Springs, locally described as Thermal Baths or "Healing Waters."

This material consists of most mountains in the area, especially where vegetation has been cut away.

These particular pieces were from the actual Hot Springs area.

There is no volcano in the vicinity, but according to the internet the hot springs are all natural. There are some suggestions of an underground volcanic water stream that may be causing the water to heat.

As far as actual tests, the little crystals do not scratch from a steel knife. They also have no reaction to vinegar. They appear to be translucent or at least semi-translucent.

My first thoughts were some form of Zeolite, an Iron stained Quartz, or maybe Garnets in matrix (maybe like an Eclogite, which is found somewhere in Guatemala).

All blind guesses though.

Thoughts?

I would say they are Quartz ( or volcanic glass) with hematite inclusions.

Could be a volcano-clastic with abundant coarser size of quartz or volcanic glass grains and a finer grained matrix of quartz and feldsic material. It does appear transported with the larger rounded grains.
