GeneralNamibite: correction

13th Mar 2017 08:32 UTCBruce Cairncross Expert

On the home page for namibite https://www.mindat.org/min-2836.html the derivation of the species name is given as: "Named for the country of discovery". This is not quite correct. Namibite is named after the Namib Desert, not Namibia per se. In their article describing the type-species, Von Knorring and Sahama (1981) state in both the Abstract and Discovery section: "The mineral is named after the Namib Desert". Can this be please be corrected? Thanks.

Corrected. Thanks.

Thanks Erik. If you want to replace the locality / lead photo on the page - currently showing the Spitzkoppe mountains - I could provide a photo of the actual Namib desert dunes. The Spitzkoppe are in the Namib Desert as such, but the dunes might be more appropriate. Let me know.
