GeneralLindsay Greenbank R.I.P. (1941-2017)
13th Oct 2017 10:15 UTCRoy Starkey 🌟 Manager
Long-time mineral collector and dealer, Lindsay Greenbank of Kendal, England passed away yesterday.
His lifelong interest in minerals and collecting is documented in Classic Minerals of Northern England - see http://www.minrec.org/bookdetail.asp?id=71
This special supplement to the January-February 2010 issue of Mineralogical Record is devoted to the mines and minerals of northern England, a region containing many famous localities.
Illustrated in colour with over 100 superb specimens from the comprehensive and well-documented collection of Lindsay and Patricia Greenbank, this publication includes much detailed background, history and mineralogical information.
Localities covered include:
The Caldbeck Fells District (Dry Gill, Roughton Gill, etc.)
The Force Crag Mine
The Boulby Mine (boracite crystals)
The Alston Moor District
The Weardale District (many classic fluorite occurrences)
The Fallowfield Mine (witherite)
The Hilton Mine (yellow fluorite)
The West Cumbrian Orefield (Biggrig, Frizington, etc.)
The Stank Mine (classic calcite specimens)
Interesting biographical notes are included on 22 prominent collectors and dealers who had previously handled specimens, later assimilated into the Greenbank collection.
(You can view a low-res version of Classic Minerals of Northern England here https://issuu.com/irocks/docs/greenbank_book_-_complete_reduced - see p141-144 for biographical notes on Lindsay)
A biographical profile of Lindsay can be found here http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1350
The funeral has been arranged for Monday 23rd October 2017 at 12 noon at St. Georges Church, Castle Street, Kendal, LA9 7AS. Refreshments afterwards at Riverside Hotel, opposite the church.
Meanwhile our thoughts and condolences are with Lindsay's wife Patricia.

Sad news indeed.
My condolences to Patricia and all Lindsays’family and friends.
I know many people who collected with Lindsay in all the classic British localities mentioned in the literature.
There will be plenty a pint drunk in Bakewell in his memory over this weekend!
RIP
