I read in the newspaper that Ross Perot, founder of the Perot museum passed away.

Yes H ROSS PEROT passed away the other day at the age of 89. He was a colorful Texas billionaire and politician.

As to the museum, years ago a couple of Dallas Tx science museums merged. Then, about 2012 or so, H Ross Perot's children made a $50 million dollar donation, having the now merged Dallas museums, renamed after him. The museum was not founded by him ,but just named after him as their very generous donor.

The museum has a very superior fossil collection including dinosaurs, but I never heard that their mineral collection was very superior. I am sure some Dallas area collectors might know more than me. The Houston Tx Museum of Science has the very superior mineral collections as far as I know. CHEERS.......BOB

The Perot museum doesn't have much of a mineral collection of its own, but does have some superb loan exhibits from local collectors, many of whom are on here!

Obviously, you haven't been to the Perot in a while, Bob. These days, the Perot ranks among one of the best mineral displays out there. As Jolyon mentioned, most of the display are loan material from the many collectors of the area, and the specimens do change so it remains fresh. Up until recently, the Houston museum was known more for their misspelled specimen labels than anything else.

And, yes, Bob, the Houston Museum of Science, does have a superb mineral collection. I was told by a friend and member of the Staff that it was put together and exhibited mostly for its aesthetics. It certainly met that goal.
