I'll be travelling to the show for the first time, so I hope to meet a lot of folks in person that I've only met online. I'm not setting up a booth, I'll just wandering around looking for stuff to add to my collection. I also know that Les Presmyk is the featured exhibitor, and I'm looking forward to seeing his display cases.

I have not seen any discussions or comments on this year's 2017 East Coast Springfield show. This was my first year in the past several years that I did not go. Any thoughts on the crowds, dealer reactions and sales or any new finds etc? I do plan to be in Denver.

I seem to be your alternate, Bob, as this time was the first in a few years that I made it. Les & Paula Presmyk's collection was fun to see, especially (for a fan of ore minerals) the diverse and impressive collection of sphalerites. They have some amazing sphalerites! (and copper minerals and plenty of other juicy things). The weather was wonderful too, for a change - sunny, low humidity, and relatively cool.

More Canadian minerals seem to show up at Springfield than in other U.S. venues, and I picked up some very fairly priced rarities.

I can also attest to the superb cases that Les and Paula put in. The diversity and quality of the specimens was excellent!

The two new things that caught my eye were both from Ojuela Mine. There was a find of zoned wulfenite (for an example see THIS). The other were some twinned calcite crystals that were rather unique, but a bit on the aesthetically challenged side. I didn't take any photos, and I can't find one on-line, so you'll have to use your imagination. White dull luster crystals sort of the shape of THIS were surrounded on the sides and back with smaller white non-twinned calcite crystals. Most of the twinned crystals were about 2 to 4 inches long but some were a bit larger. If someone got a photo of these please post one!

There were quite a few mineral dealers set up. The selection of fairly recent to old classic specimens was really good. I thought that the prices of the specimens ranged from quite reasonable to not-so-reasonable, but then again I'm a bit of a bargain hunter so take that for what it's worth...
