Improving Mindat.orgCrimea localities

I think it is safe to say that this is now part of Russia not Ukraine. http://www.mindat.org/loc-2631.html

No.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimea

says

"Controlled by Russia (except Ukrainian-controlled part of Arabat Spit), internationally recognised as part of Ukraine."

We tried to come up with a non-political rule to deal with issues such as this.

From a purely non-political point of view we have to work on the basis of what is the most important criteria for mineral collectors as to whether a territory should be listed as part of country A or country B - and that usually is which country would I need to apply for a visa to in order to visit the locality?

In this case clearly Crimea is part of Russia.

However, to avoid situations where territories are temporarily annexed and then later returned, we have stipulated a five year rule for contested regions (such as this case), so that in March 2019, assuming there are no changes to the current situation, we will move Crimea into the hierarchy of Russia.

This is no way indicates our support for the political status of Crimea one way or the other.

"we have stipulated a five year rule " good idea.

We have similar issues with disputed territories elsewhere, in particular the kuril islands off the coast of Japan, controlled by Russia since 1945 but claimed by Japan.

I'll look into that.
