Improving Mindat.orgFantappièite

30th Sep 2017 08:02 UTCJürgen Wachsmuth

Hello,

for fantappièite mindat shows two localities. Yet there is also a picture of fantappièite from Biachella Valley, Sacrofano. This is a third locality, or is it the same place as Stracciacappe caldera?

Kind regards,

Jürgen

Valle Biachella in the Sacrofano caldera and Stracciacappe caldera are two distinct localities but both belong to the Sabatini volcanic complex.

Stracciacappe is the type locality for fantappièite. I'm aware of a second find made by the collector Rossano Carlini at Valle Bachella which I think was confirmed by analysis but don't have any data.

Later another find was made by myself at fosso La Nova (La Nova creek) in the Vulsini volcanic complex. I unearthed a unique large sanidinitic ejecta with many greenish crystals in miarolitic cavities in association with 'fassaite', hauyne, andradite and minor titanite. Fantappièite was confirmed by FTIR + XRD performed at the University of Roma Tre. All the fantappièite xls from Fosso La Nova are from my find.

Dear Antonio,

thank you for your clear answer.
