Improving Mindat.orgRounding error in Lat/Long

13th Feb 2018 22:27 UTCBruce Kelley Expert

The WGS84 Latitude and Longitude has a rounding error such that it can end up with X° Y' 60'' rather than the correct X° Y+1' 0".

An example can be found here: https://www.mindat.org/loc-19989.html

Latitude & Longitude (WGS84): 68° 52' 60'' North , 140° 17' 60'' East

Latitude & Longitude (decimal): 68.8833333333, 140.3

It's a bug that got fixed in the location edit, but some of the previously generated lat/long are still in the database.

David: can you find out how many datasets? If manually fixing them would be too time-consuming, could this be done by some kind of search-and-replace method?

It is only a problem in the longitude field. There are 2300 records.
