Definition of fahlband
A term originally used by German miners to indicate a band of sulfide impregnation in metamorphic rocks. The sulfides are too abundant to be classed as accessory minerals, but too sparse to form an ore lens. They represent the metamorphosed equivalents of common black shales. Fahlbands have a characteristic rusty-brown appearance on weathering.
