Definition of lebin
A mining method used for gem mining in Burma.
It is a vertical pit, a little over one square meter and usually between 15-20 meters deep. Sturdy timber logs are inserted vertically into the pit to reinforce its walls and prevent cave-ins. Rows of logs are erected horizontally and the sides of the pit packed with tree-branches and leaves tied together using raw cane bands. Mining is performed deep in the pit.
