Parisite from
East Kemptville Tin-Indium Project (East Kemptville Tin Mine), East Kemptville, Argyle, Yarmouth Co., Nova Scotia, Canada

Locality type:Project
Classification
Species:'Parisite' (not an IMA approved species)
Formula:Ca(Ce/La/Nd/REE)2(CO3)3F2
Comments:Interesting brown-cream colored prismatic crystals with excellent cleavage are parisite, a cerium carbonate mineral. Actually, recent microprobe tests have shown that the central parts of the crystals are parisite and the rinds are a cerium phosphate. More identification work is being carried out. These crystals are generally about 5 mm or less, but have been found to about 1 cm. Rarely they will have a dusting of extremely tiny pyrites. Note the undulating growth along the prism and the fat midsection of the rear crystal.
