Davidite-(Ce) from
Chogart Mine, Bafq County, Yazd Province, Iran

Locality type:Mine
Classification
Species:Davidite-(Ce)
Formula:Ce(Y,U)Fe2(Ti,Fe,Cr,V)18(O,OH,F)38
Comments:Submicroscopic crystals of an unusual complex REE-rich iron-titanate from the apatite-magnetite ore of the Chogart mine/Iran were proved to be davidite. Average calculated unit-cell composition from microprobe analyses, normalized to 38 oxygens, is (Ce0.38, La0.35) Σ0.73 (Y0.69, Ti13,20, Fe6,33, V0.43, Mn0.21, Mg0.09) Σ20.95O38. The mineral appears as traces and as small euhedral crystals representing a late-stage mineral phase in minute open spaces and finest fractures of the magnetite ore. The mineral is opaque and behaves totally isotropic in the reflected light. The reflectance is 18-6 % in air (546 nm)
