Apatite from
Akzhailyau Mountains, Semey, Abai Region, Kazakhstan

Locality type:Mountain Range
Classification
Species:'Apatite' (not an IMA approved species)
Formula:Ca5(PO4)3(Cl/F/OH)
Comments:The apatite’s alexandrite effect predominantly stems from absorption peaks at
748, 738, 583, 578, and 526 nm in the visible spectrum, all of which are attributed to the rare-earth
element, Nd. The fluorescence peaks of the apatite are primarily influenced by elements such as Ce,
Eu, Nd, and Mn.
Habit:typically hexagonal, favoring a long prismatic shape over a short one.
Colour: alexandrite effect - yellowish-green hue in daylight and transitions to a pinkish-orange shade under incandescent lighting.
Confirmation
Validity:Believed Valid
