Difficult to say just from a picture and with no other data (hardness, streak..), but my first thoughts are staurolite or an amphibole.

In addition to hardness, what is the cross-sectional shape? From the photo, it appears rectilinear, which rather eliminates an amphibole.

I'm thinking apatite,,, does it fluoress, whats the hardness?

Dravite tourmaline. When I lived in New York State I made frequent trips to Ruggles Mine in New Hampshire. Dravite tourmaline in biotite schist was abundant there, and looked very much like your sample. However seeing a crystal cross-section to see its shape (hexagonal?) would be very useful.

It looks very similar to the I'd you guys did for the specimen that was from Vietnam a week or two ago. . .? I think he found it by a river.

Thanks to all!!!

Hardness 7 Streak white

Not fluoress.

Yes Maybe dravite in biotite schist.

Here are more pictures of the same mineral maybe it can help ID them... the person that gave them to me told me they came from Brazil but wasn't sure. Juan Angel and I have our doubts hopefully someone can confirm if it's Tourmaline / Dravite
