Identity HelpUnidentidified brownish yellow blob on basalt with zeolites

26th Nov 2009 13:33 UTCJason Evans

Hi, can anyone help id this? i was looking at a bit of basalt, location unknown but i think probably the poona area in india, it has stilbite and tiny quartz crystals, includinga vug full of very pale purple amethyst, I was studying the entire rock with my 20x loupe and noticed a mineral i never knew was there, there are a few of them on the specimen but the one i took the pic of is the best in terms of the colour and formation, all i can describe it as is a yellowish brown blob, slightly transclucent, it has lots of tiny flat "facets" if thats the correct term.

Sorry the pics arnt very good, its so tiny even my macro had difficuilty focusing, the forst pic shows a overal pic of the mineral with surrounding basalt and asscociated minerals, the second pic had been cropped, so, any ideas?

Thanks

Jason

It's hard to tell, but does it look like this thompsonite texture wise? http://www.mindat.org/photo-210334.html

Hello,

Maybe montmorillonite or opal.
