Xenotime?

I'd be surprised if it were Xenotime. Probably just some of the Quartz inclusions, or maybe Calcite, very hard to determine Zagi stuff without analysis.

Check it out for sure with a drop of acid. And of course after putting a drop of acid on a minor crystal, wash it off with a lot of extra water.

Hardness test will be just as revealing, but alot less damaging.

Garnet?

Good guess Adam, but it is not garnet, already ruled that one out. Hadn't even considered calcite. Very good possibility too. I will have him do a scratch test. Thanks again everyone, he will be happy.

I have a similar looking piece from Zagi:

This one is definitely Quartz, with inclusions of what I believe to be Astrophyllite.

Hope this helps,

Nik
