Identity HelpWhat is 't ? of Sweden
24th Jul 2010 10:23 UTCTREILLARD Michel
two samples they gave me and come from Sweden, (perhaps Goetland?). The first measures 4 x 3.5cm. It is composed of magnetic metal particles yellowish-white and other particles glassy purple. (Did not attacked by HCl) I think pyrrhotite for metal particles but I have no ideas for the purple.
The second photo is of the same provenance, size 3 x 2.5cm. it is also composed of particles and magnetic glassy gray and yellow-gray and gray metallic grains and gold (perhaps pyrrotite magnetite?). Light affervescence with HCl.
The two samples will not scratch quartz, are not fluorescent. What do you think? Thank you in advance.

I do not think either of fluorite because there is no fluorescence, have also examined with a binocular not found the cleavage of fluorite. When originally I'm sure to Sweden. But Gotland is an assumption. Thank you again and good Sunday in France.

Gotland is ruled out. The only gold and silver there is of Viking age- or more recent and occur as coins, rings, .........
No1 - Check hardness of the purple material- anhydrite?
No 2- looks like quartz with small metallic particles. IF there is gold in it I´ll go for the Björkdal Mine and it occur a number of Bi-tellurides there.

No. 1 - difficult to measure the hardness, but is reduced to scraping white powder with a steel instrument, so likely anhydrite. What could be the source?
No. 2 - in the gallery MinDate "BJORKDALE mine" There is a sample that is very similar to mine. (Grains of gold in association with pyrrhotite and quartz in tsumoite)
Again thank you for your help. Regards. Michel
