Here's what I'm sure of, It's a Zircon, and it's from Malawi. Anyhow there are 5 localitites in Malawi that are listed which have Zircon. I'm not sure which one I can place it in. If there's any experts out there, or someone who recognizes the material please advise me of the locality. I purchased this specimen up in Gilsum, NH. No big deal, and I know it's a long shot. But does anyone think they can pin point the locality based on the photo ? The size of the specimen is about 3" tall and 2" wide. There were even larger specimens than this one. Some reaching 4-5" accross and 5-6" tall I understand.

The most I've seen on a label is "Rift Mineral Province." Good luck!

The exact locality of this Zircon from Malawi might be Kasungu, there is also the Rift Valley but I think this is from Kasungu due to the deep brown red color.

I recall looking at these offered from an online dealer ship and was luckily able to retrieve the site and locality given by them:

Kasungu, Malawi.

I suppose it is not only the colour that is a give away - even more the SIZE

cheers
