Identity HelpAcicular unknown from Red Cloud Mine, La Paz Co, AZ

22nd Aug 2010 21:33 UTCSergey Sayamov

I'm in doubts about this acicular white crystals accompanying wulfenites. Aragonite?

22nd Aug 2010 21:46 UTCRock Currier Expert

Quite a bit of Willemite is found at the mine.

Hello Sergey,

Rock is correct in that willemite was abundant at this locality. If you have a fluorescent light, willemite will fluoresce green under short wave fluorescence.

I agree...I've found willemite associated with the wulfenite, calcite and fluorite from the Red Cloud.

Hemimorphite?

Already checked the fluorescence - acicular crystals are bright green under LW UV light! Willemite? Or can the aragonite be still a possibility?

Take a tiny crystal, crush it to powder between spoons and add a drop of acid and see it it generates bubbles. If it does, then aragonite would be a possibility.
