Techniques for CollectorsGarnet matrix creations.. How am i doing so far?

8th Sep 2010 17:55 UTCRyan Allen

Just a few of my many garnets in matrix.. Am always looking for pointers as its been a real learning curve.. I must have tossed the first 25 attempts due to the stones falling out.. It is bad form to glue them back in right? Anyway it helps having a limitless supply of fresh matierial! Im open to any ideas.. Cant afford a sand blasting unit so that ideas out. Been considering attempting a big chunk... how big is too big for a garnet in matrix specimen?

Open to all constructive criticism

Thx

Ryan

Ryan,

Looks like you are doing a credible job. Keep in mind that your garnets don't get larger along with your specimens and if you do make a big one, the garents will look pretty small relative to the garents in it. Also, keep in mind that few collectors have space in their collections for large specimens. You may be better served and get more bang for your buck to make the specimens smaller, miniature and small cabinet size. That way the garnets will be much larger compared to the specimen size and more interesting for your customers. After all they are interested in buying garnets, not matrix.
