Identity HelpEpitaxial chalcopyrite ?

22nd Nov 2011 13:23 UTCAndrea Sansoni OP

This looks epitaxial to me (chalcopyrite over sphalerite, Giudurska Bulgaria) but I am not sure, it is the first time I see something like this, could someone confirm or deny please ?

Yes, that's exactly what it is. Chalcopyrite epitaxial over Sphalerite.

I have a specimen from the same locality, showing the reverse epitaxial relationship: Sharp Shpalerite xls aligned along the edges and on the faces of large crude Chalcopyrite tetrahedra.

Thanks Lefteris,

the chalcopyrite xls look alligned, at least most of them do, but the curvy faces and edges make it hard to judge how precisely they are alligned. I assume for an epitaxial growth they should be exactly alligned. For example the small crystal in the middle (second photo) does not look alligned quite as well, so my question...
