New Messageboard

Thanks to David Von Bargen who invested a whole heap of time to get this ready to install - we've had a few teething problems but it is mostly there now.
Important!

You can change your language by switching to "My Control Center" and set the messageboard in the language of your choice. If, like me, you speak english but don't like the default (US) date format, I've set up an Englsh (British) language option that contains dates in the correct order (D/M/Y).

Can the threads be "collapsed" to just a list of the replies? - Like they were on the old board?
Call me lazy, but I am not used to having to scroll down past all the replies to get to the last ones - the ones I haven't read. It can be a bit of trek when you have a few long-winded posters like me along for the ride... :~}

In the "my control center" in forum options you can control whether the threads are expanded or collapsed. You also have the option of changing the time and date of posts to your local time by setting offsets (instead of just GMT).

I like what what has been done to the board. It's easier to see the subjects I am interested in. Thanks to you and David and anyone else had anything to do with the changes.

All I get clicking "My Control Center" is a message telling me to log in. I am already logged in...

The new messageboard system uses the UTF-8 character set - this may not work well with Windows 98 and below using extended characters, it will work with Windows 2000, NT, MacOS and most Unix/Linux systems fine.
This is necessary to support multiple character sets correctly within one system.

The problem is that messages *before* the transfer that contained accents could not be converted correctly - but new messages should be ok (although as I said above, not proven in Win98)

You should be able to get to the control center if you log out and then log back in again. This does need to be fixed and is a bug.

It was a configuration problem. Should be fixed now.

Excellent new messageboard! thanks!
Just a silly question though... in 'my control centre - forum settings', what is 'DST currently active' please?
Thanks
Maria

I like very much: the last posting on topp, the way to navigate around, the way you have orginized the different forums in "super groups"... I had some more positiv feedback on the new messageboard look to... but it's getting late.
Anyway, I like it! Good work David and Jolyon, thanks!

If you register and log in to the message board, all unread messages will be tagged with a red new. This new is listed on the main list of forums as well as the individual threads (there is a benefit in membership).

PS Noted a misprint in the registration form: "Minature".

I raised you to full mmembership. That means that you can make the many changes yourself without first typing them into a message for us. Basically, it will take the same amount of time for you to enter the changes directly. Welconme aboard!

I have just posted a message elsewhere on the board and included a smiley which doesn't show as a smiley pic in the final posted message (not a major problem as I only expected the text smiley to appear anyway) but the box that replaced it had the text "Yawning Smiley" in it.
I didn't intend a yawning smiley when I typed it (kinda changes the tone of the message when it ends in a yawn doncha think?) so it would be extremely useful to be able to go back in and edit it to sort it out myself!
I don't know if self editing is a feature of these boards or not but if so, could you look into it, please?
Thanks,
KOR

I see you had(have?) some problems with the accents.
In the dutch forum there is the word privé which is displayed as priv + some chinese character?
Under 'options' I mean.
