GeneralWulfenite rosettes?

11th Jun 2006 05:02 UTCKyle Eastman

I have collected a specimen from the Barking Spider(Finch) Mine that appears to have wulfenite in rosette form. At first glance it appeared to be botry red/orange mimetite on quartz, but closer inspection with a microscope at the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum revealed a very distinct rosette--similar in shape to the hematite "iron roses" from the Swiss Alps. The rosettes are no larger than 2mm at best and are scattered thinly on quartz crystals in a vug about 2cm across. Does anyone know whether or not wulfenite can form a rosette? I'm sorry I cannot provide a picture because I do not have my own microscope($$$!) and the microscope at the museum had no camera attachment.

Thanks,

-Kyle

Sounds more like descloizite than wulfenite.

I actually have found a descloizite "rosette" in mindat's descloizite gallery, so that may well be. Thanks!
