Identity HelpGarnet?

It supposedly comes from Guatemala, guessing around Tecpan or Sierra de las Minas.
Pretty hard material, not scratch with a steel knife. Much too hard for Apatite.
Is this (most likely) garnet?

This stuff is pretty crazy and randomly found someone selling it. Once in a while in the markets people have some new minerals that come from the Sierra de las Minas area. Some of the other material, the more pink-green stuff, looks exactly like Jeffrey Mine Vesuvianite. That I know of, Vesuvianite is not reported from the area, though.

There are reportedly copper skarns in Concepcion las Minas. I wonder if this could be associated?

Although it was purchased at a local market in Antigua, Guatemala, could it not originate from neighbouring Mexico where Grossular Garnet is commonly found (along with Vesuvianite)?
