Messaggeria in lingua italianaBisogno di aiuto per Arcu su Linnarbu / Need help for Arcu su Linnarbu

4th May 2021 06:41 UTCAlix Julien

Buongiorno a tutti,

                                          ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good morning all,

I have a little question for the Italian community knowing Arcu su Linnarbu well ( https://www.mindat.org/loc-2123.html ).
I have a specimen with a black, botryoidal crust as in his photos:
And I do not manage to know if it is Goethite (which is described in the locality on mindat and accompanied by this single photo: https://www.mindat.org/photo-1055518.html ) or if it 'is Pitchblend / Pechblend (which is not locally described on mindat).
I am amazed that there is no Pitchblend / Pechblend at this locality. Am I wrong or there is some but it has not been described?
I looked at all the photos of the locality but no one mentioned it in the description (which is a shame).
Does anyone have any idea of the identification of this mineral.

Thank you for your help.

Alix,
uraninite is listed for that locality.

Grazie ancora!

                                          ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah yes! What an idiot that I am!
I didn't know that Pechblend / Pitchblend was a variety of Uraninite. Thanks Herwig! :)
But alas, there are no pictures to compare. So I am still not sure of the identification :s

Thanks again!

Most probably goethite. Uraninite at Arcu su Linnarbu is only found in small non-crystallized veinlets.

Alix,
check the radiation.
If uraninite the rock should be "hot" and make the Geiger counter go crazy !!
If goethite you might still have some radiation, but way less.
Compare with another specimen from the same locality to get an idea of the background noise.
Cheers, Herwig

Buongiorno a tutti,

Hello all,

Thanks for your help.
I don't have a Geiger counter and in any case there will have been a signal (I think) because there is Phosphuranylite on the Goethite.
Thank you Giorgio Bortolozzi for making the effort to write it down and for pointing it out in your photos.

Thank you again for the help provided and see you very soon
