GeneralSPAM

18th Mar 2017 03:47 UTCDoug Schonewald

Today there were dozens of spam messages linked to one specific photo. When I cam to Mindat I was able to ask a few questions as a 'guest' and then I joined. Maybe it is TIME that if you don't join you are blocked from posting. I realize we would be limiting participation, but joining is pretty painless. Spam at this level pretty much takes the fun out of browsing the message board since you have to sort through dozens of spam messages.

Yes, I found at least 22 spam messages this morning (UK time), all connected to a photo. What a plague for Mindat!

Deleted them.

Meanwhile a new batch of them.

Thanks, David - you must get tired of doing that!

There is a very easy way to get rid of multiple messages if you are in the messageboard administration area.

I have limited the ability to post any messages to the Photo talk pages (temporarily)

If they are "simple spam", they are just very annoying. But if they are more sophisticated attempts at hacking and by opening one just to look at it your computer is hacked then it is far more than just annoying. CHEERS.......BOB
