GeneralWhy no photos allowed on Homepages

I submitted for approval of images to put on my homepage and was rejected. I cannot understand why. At first I typed up a long statement for approval, which did not go through. I tried again with a shorter explanation, and I was rejected. I'm not a geologist, nor a professional photographer. I'm a professional ceramist, who teaches at a local college, who happens to be very interested in geologic minerals, specific sites and their geologic history, physical characteristics of minerals (vitreous, crystalline patterns, colour, translucency,) and reading up on site locations prior to collecting specimens in situ. I was hoping to share and exchange knowledge via this site but I don't see how this is possible unless I can upload my own images. thanks

We do not activate accounts that use pseudonyms. You can participate in the messageboard, and upload photos here.

Or just use your real name as the link in DVB's post suggests.....

Welcome to my world. David is here is right. They don't want to activate anyone's account with pseudonyms like mine for example. I did the exact same thing that you did one or two years ago and I was also rejected. All I wanted to do is make a short blog about myself on my page and upload a few pictures to the sites on Mindat, but I can't do that at all. My page looks kinda like craude because it's empty and it kinda gives me a horrible reception (like it kinda makes me look like one of those accounts that was created by a bot that's helping with someone get money in a horrible way). I don't know why you have to use a real name just to make a short blog about yourself, but the information that I received form Jolyon about uploading pictures here on Mindat does kinda makes sense.

You may not upload your pictures to any sites on Mindat nor make your pictures a bit more open to the public, but you can join in the Forums that are on this website. You can even upload pictures on the Forums. Heck, that's what I'm doing right now on this forum, https://www.mindat.org/mesg-6-385102.html

Matt Courville, the person who made this forum, would be glad to see your pictures of your findings, if you have any. Now since you're new to this website, welcome to Mindat.

I'm not to sure why people prefer pseudonyms anyways. Just googling your pseudonym can bring up your name, Sean.

It could be of some help to mindat to have a real profile as you might have specimens from places that don't have pictures yet. Perhaps you had a new find. Those pictures could help people going to those sites in the future.

Happy hunting,

Matt

Matt, people have different reasons to why they don't wanna use their real. I don't know how often you go on the internet, but not everyone uses their real name (perhaps for specific reasons).

Also, when I Googled searched the name that I'm using on Mindat, All I see is 5 results, 3/5 of them lead me back to Mindat like my page on the website itself for example. You can only see my name if you go onto my account itself, not on Google. When I just Google "Musomba" by itself, all I see are multiple African people with Musomba for their surname. I then did the same thing with "Nthingu" and I got similar results. However, there weren't that many as "Musomba". The first result lead me back to, you guessed it, Mindat. Look Matt, you gotta think about other people's privacy. At least try to guess in your head why they do so. I don't know Agate's reason to why he/she is using a pseudonym like me, but I think this new user may have multiple reasons and I have my reason. Some people, like me for example, are quite passionate about internet safety.

Mindat serves a relatively diverse user base. It includes not only mineral collectors, but also professional mineralogists, economic geologists, people interested in the history of mines and mining districts.

People tend to change email addresses over periods of time, so if there are questions about a person's entries into the system - photographs, locations, minerals at locations, it becomes almost impossible to track down anonymous users. If you have a real name, you have at least a chance to locate the person who made the entry.

Also, what would be your credibility if you wrote an anonymous article about ceramics?
OK. My real name is up. How to I request an appeal to post my own photos on my homepage. Please. I am not a fraud or Bot. Now anyone on here can google me and find out my whole life, LOL. I get both points about internet safety, privacy and the ability to track true credentials. I just want to post photos of my rocks on someplace besides my wordpress. Thank you
