Generalminerals at San Teodoro, Almaden

4th Nov 2017 13:08 UTCTony Peterson Expert

I recently obtained some interesting pieces in trade from Pozo de San Teodoro. I presumed the yellow mineral, intimately associated with cinnabar, was a secondary Hg species and was gratified to see schuetteite (a sulphate) listed. Photos of schuetteite from other mines look uncannily like the Teodoro species.

However, a trip to the SEM proved it was all jarosite, which is NOT listed as a species for this mine. A skeptical cynic like me then assumes that schuetteite was originally identified visually at this locale. Can anyone enlighten me? In any event, assuming my location is correct (and I obtained the pieces from a Spaniard with a good collection of Spanish Hg pieces), jarosite needs to be added to the location.

Tony: you can add jarosite yourself. Use: "Tony Peterson collection (SEM-EDS-analysed)".

The ref. for schuetteite is Jordi Fabre (who analyses rare species as far as I know - you want want to ask him).

No need to question Jordi. If he's listening maybe he'd like to send me a free reference piece.....:)
